Many type
of hair loss on children can also be found naturally as on adults.There are
some of these that carry the property of pregnancy and give findings
together with another system ilnesses (for example;
bone,ear-nose-throat,eyes,endokrin.etc.).These ones arises generally with
birth.We call these ilnesses as” Conjenital Hair Ilnesses”.Most of these
illnesses which are related with pregnancy are also hereditary .That is,on
the former generations of the family ,a similar ilness exist.Trouble on the
skin may also occur on those patients.They have a dry and scaly skin.Apart
from this,trouble on tooth and nails occurs.Though the situation may be in a
more serious dimension on some people.On such patients,breaking of the bones
and the intelligence problems may be found.Another group of hair loss that
is seen on children are "Alopecia Areatas"
.Its having many different appearances really deserves the word
“group”.Because we come across with shapes that can leave the head hairless
as well as the hair loss in the bigness of a coin on the hairy skin.The
shape encountered generally on children is the simple alopecia areata which
goes with one or many little hairless area.If the whole hairy skin is
affected and the child has a bald appearance,then we can mention about
"Alopecia Totalis".If this
situation goes with the loss of eyebrow,eyelash and other body hairs,in that
case the ilness is called "Alopecia Universalis".
Various thoughts were introduced about the
formation of alopecia areata in the course of time.The old put the focus of
infection in the first place.Ear,throat and especialy tooth decays were
taken into consideration on children.This situation was brought into a point
that nearly a map was formed,and it was accepted that as if hair loss can
only occur on the area which was damaged by the decayed tooth.Again in the
past,hormones and especially thyroid illnesses were taken into
consideration.Psychological problems of the children were out of
consideration in those times.Familial problems,birth of a new
brother/sister,stresses experienced at school cause this situation to be
considered more seriously in the course of time.According to the view which
is in the first place today,hair loss occurs because of a mechanism called
immunity system.
Alopecia areata is a subject which should be
taken seriously with its simple form and also future form.It is necessary
that children should make up dialogue with a doctor for early diagnosis and
treatment.Being patient in the treatment is a necessity.
There is another ilness which is defined
rather newly on children and is called”Loose Anagene Hair Syndrome”.Main
characteristic of this ilness is that hairs nearly never grow longer.Parents
express that they never need hair cut o 5-6 years old patients.Because they
do not need that and hair of the child is never cut.
Another very important ilness on children is
"Trichotillomania" which is
known as "Hair pulling" in the public.Children in
that situation always play with their hairs,and as a result regional hair
loss occurs.However,on other areas hairs are in normal function.It is an
excessively serious situation.But it is possible that we can save the
children from this problem with the help of the cooperation that will be
formed with a psychiatrist.
