What is the male type of hair loss (Androgenetics Alopecia) ?
Hair loss is known as alopecia in the medicine literature.If this situation
is related with hormones (androgen) and genetics ,it is known as
androgenetics alopecia and causes baldness.In male type of alopecia, hair
line draws back or there is loss on the top.Similar type of hair loss on
women is known as female type of hair loss.Hairs on the top area become
thin,and it is generally less intense when compared with males.
What is the reason of baldness?
Male type of hair loss is hereditary and develops as a result of sensitivity
to the effects of the hormone called dihydrotestesterone which is codified
genetically. Dihydrotestesterone shortens the development phase of the hair
which we call anagene and causes hair roots to become shorter and thus hairs
become thin little by little.Production of dihydrotestesterone is organized
by an enzyme called Alpha-5 reduktaza.
What are the development phases of hair?
All hair roots are in different phases at definite proportions in the
process of normal hair vicious circle.Development of hair includes the
active and relaxation phases.Development period is known as anagene phase
and this process lasts 2-6 years.In this phase, hair roots are long and deep
and have thick dark colours.%90 of hairs are in anagene phase.
Catagen phase which lasts some weeks is seen after anagene phase.In this
phase,hair root shrinks.Relexation phase or telogen phase also lasts 2-4
months.After the end of this process,hairs pass to the anagene phase again.A
new anagene phase starts after the telogen phase, hairs are separated from
their roots and the new hair starts to grow.
Where is the dihydrotestesterone in the body?
Dihydrotestesterone is in lots of tissue including hairy skin.
What is the function of Alpha-5 reduktaza in the body?
Alpha-5 reduktaza is an enzyme which organizes the production of
dihydrotestesterone.The enzyme which is a substance in protein structure has
a function as catalyst that accelerates a chemical reaction.Activity of
Alpha-5 reduktaza may be hindered by some medicines.
What is the importance of genetics build in male type of hair loss?
Male type of hair loss that is seen on men is determined genetically and
develops as a result of more sensitivity to the effects of
dihydrotestesterone.
How often is the male type of hair loss seen?
Male type of hair loss happens on %50 of men during their whole lives.The
illness is seen on different populations in different proportion,and that is
probably related with genetics.While on white race baldness problem is seen
in different levels especially in fifties, it is seen less on some races
like Japan and Chinese.
Which techniques are used in male type of hair loss?
* Hair sow
* Cosmetics
* False hair and wig
* Minoxidil solution
* Finasteride tablet (type II inhibitor of alpha reduktaza)
